We hope that your new school year is going well and that everyone is getting to to being back to school (unless you are retired) Things are going well for us here in Addis. We arrived on August 5th, just in time for 2 weeks of orientation. Besides losing 2 bags on the Minneapolis to Toronto leg of our journey I am please to say that travel was smooth and uneventful. We made it through customs with no issues and our other 2 bags join us after a few days.
Orientation was fun, we didn't get to experience it last year since we arrived after classes had started. Between lecture times we were able to get to know the new staff that arrived this year, prepare classrooms & work spaces and experience bits of Ethiopian culture (making injera, roasting coffee, eating food, spinning yarn and trying on cultural clothing.

The school year started quickly and it has been busy ever since. We go from waking up in the morning to going to school, sports practice, meetings, homework, dinners and bed.....just to do it again the next day. Everyone is getting use to their schedules and are fitting into their roles.
Jessica is busy this year being the full time grade 1 teacher. Audri is in grade 9, Isaiah in grade 6 and Isabelle in grade 2 which means we have a student in Elementary, Middle and High school this year! Classes are going well and each are getting use to the work load of each grade. I am busy as I took on full-time status. I will be functioning as the Events Coordinator, Housing Manager and help out with Facilities. I am also excited to be able to direct the Horizon Boys program this year.
It has been raining every day here and it is cold. Can you believe we came to Africa to cool down? The rain has a soothing affect at times but I think everyone is over it now. We did have a few days of heavy rain and even hail. Hail that made our campus look like a wintry wonderland. Kind of reminded us of snow. See the below pictures.

As pretty as it was....it did some substantial damage to our newest school building and brought down a perimeter wall. The sustained damage is not able to be claimed through insurance so needless to say, it will be an expensive repair bill. If you would like to help or read more about the damage and how you can help please see the following link:

Thank you for taking the time to catch up with us. We cant wait to share more with you. We have been blessed by your thoughts and prayers and would like the opportunity to discuss our financial needs with you.
Blessings!
