Today Jes and Audri woke up feeling a bit under the weather. There is a big race called the Great Ethiopian Run that is happening in the area by our church so instead we decided to spend the morning at home reading the Bible for a short time before we all split up to our different planned tasks....Jes to plan, Audri to recover, Belle/Isaiah to play and me to get ready for the next week.
We wanted to show the kids that just because we didn't go to church doesn't mean that we can't learn about God and spend time in His Word wherever we are.
Audri: Matthew 5
"You have to forgive. You need to think of other people's feelings and opinions"
Isaiah: Genesis 1
"On the seventh day God rested. That day is called the Sabbath. This day was also mentioned in the Ten Commandments"
Isabelle:
"God created the world, the animals and all of us. "
On Friday, November 13th I was asked to speak at the Elementary School's chapel. The subject was being led by the Spirit. The story used to illustrated this was when Elijah spoke to God on the mountain. Elijah experienced wind, an earthquake and fire but God was not in an of those experiences. It wasn't until Elijah heard a quiet whisper that he went and spoke to God.
The message of this truth is the fact that the Spirit is always speaking to and leading us but there are times when we are either too busy, scared or distracted to hear what the Spirit is telling us. We experienced this during our fundraising and planning for our ministry and we even struggle with it since we have arrived. God has amazing plans for us and wants us to listen and obey these plans but sometimes it is not as easy as it sounds.
Sometime we encounter "winds" that mess up our plans and push us in ways we don't like or in the unknown. We spend our time and energy trying to get our lives "back on track". Sometimes we are confronted with "earthquakes" that shake our foundation and test our resolve. We spent our time and energy to put the pieces back together and reconstruct our lives. Sometime we walk through the "fires" that destroy all the things around us and we put all our energy in disaster control.
The thing that we need to focus on is the quiet whisper. We need to take a second to calm our minds, bodies and spirits to be fully aware of what God is trying to teach us. I know that we are experiencing many distractions, fears, frustrations and unknowns but the best thing we can do is to refocus and place ourselves at the mercy of the Holy Spirit. Please pray for our family as we encounter obstacles, struggles and trials, that they might push us towards the comfort of Jesus instead of towards our sinful, human desires and responses.
We pray the same for each of you as you close out another weekend and jump back into the next week of school, work, activities and life.
Blessings to you
